10 Lynn Hollow

Today we park at Arbaugh Trailhead and will be hiking on the Ozark Highlands Trail (OHT) down into Lynn Hollow. We have crossed the OHT in a few places near Richland Creek Wilderness, but this is our first actual hike on the OHT.  The Ozark Highlands Trail is a long-distance trail crossing the Ozark St. Francis National Forest.  Not yet complete, the trail at the time of this writing is well over 200 miles and will eventually connect to the Ozark Trail up in Missouri.

The tranquil pools of Lynn Hollow make this a scenic respite while hiking the Ozark Highlands Trail.

From the Trailhead we cross the road and after about a quarter mile come to the top of Lichen Falls, the terrain has been pretty flat so far.  The OHT here is on top of the little drainage that contains Lichen Falls with occasional good views through the trees down to the falls. With little flow in this small side stream, Lichen Falls isn't very impressive.  I’ll have to come back for some pictures after a good hard rain.

Lichen Falls with little water

Continuing, the trail turns south into the next little drainage. In a little over two hundred yards, we come to a small waterfall just below the trail. From here the trail gradually heads down hill and at the bottom of the next little drainage is a spur trail to the west. We leave the OHT here and follow this short trail down into Lynn Hollow.

small bluff falls

It isn’t far to Lynn Hollow Falls, and Lynn Hollow Cascade just a few feet further downstream. Lynn Hollow Falls is not tall at all, but the little grotto area containing the falls and cascade is really scenic. On the north side of the hollow (during wet weather) is a nice pouroff waterfall.  Lynn Hollow Falls marks the end of this short hike, and we retrace our route back to the car. This easy hike was just 2 miles roundtrip with just under 300 feet of elevation gain.
